One final issue following up on the advertising message: email usernames. One of the evil notions that some online services promote is the selection of "cute" usernames. If you are going to be in a "chat" room somewhere and would rather keep your identity confidential, fine. But when participating in a forum like SCTE-LIST, email "handles" are definitely unprofessional. Many online services allow you to register more than one username. It looks much more professional if you use your real name. It looks even more professional if your organization registers its own domain name, like hp.com or tcinc.com (for example). When you see a message with a domain name like that, you are inclined to think of the user as more professional. And, one more time, take a moment to find out how your mail program or service handles signature files (like the thing at the bottom of this message), and create one for yourself right now. You don't need anything fancy, like enlightening quotations or ascii art (pictures with *&^><\/ symbols), just your name, title, organization, email address and maybe phone number, FAX number or US mail address. Remember, these are suggestions only. Please, feel free to discuss these issues, either here on the list or directly with an email correspondant. Also, as you have done so well, be patient with subscribers as they learn the ropes.
